What’s one key reason people buy Costa Mesa homes? Costa Mesa schools! Today we’re highlighting an outstanding educational event that took place at Sonora Elementary School in the Mesa Del Mar neighborhood of Costa Mesa.
Costa Mesa students at Sonora Elementary look forward to Mrs. Muniz’s Famous Archaeological Dig, which is the wrap up of the Ancient Civilizations curriculum. The Sonora Dad’s Club helps with preparing the “Mounds of Sonora” for the students to excavate. On the day of the dig, students come to school dressed like nature archaeologists and proceed to unearth hidden treasures.
Once the students discover the artifacts, they have to use their knowledge and research skills to determine the time period and civilization of each relic. This interactive learning experience makes education fun and interesting for the students.
Projects like this are what students remember. Mrs. Muniz’s creativity and effort will certainly be treasured by all the fortunate students at Sonora Elementary. It’s no wonder that Sonora Elementary School was named a 2009 California Title I Achieving School and a 2009 National Title I Distinguished School. Costa Mesa schools are vital to the growth and performance of the children in our community. What are some of the other great schools in Costa Mesa doing? Stay tuned to find out!
