The Volcom Skate Park in Costa Mesa was the place to be on Sunday, June 27. Costa Mesa real estate company Torelli Realty was proud to participate in an event that literally had ‘Orange County’ written all over it. The event received some excellent publicity in OC Weekly.
For thoese of you who don’t know, Volcom Skate Park is a huge attraction for skaters all over the OC. It is located at the corner or Arlington and Junipero in the Costa Mesa neighborhood of Mesa del Mar right by the Orange County Fair.
Seth Elson was the Chairman for The Slam OC and the purpose was to combine skateboarding, music, and environmental stewardship into one event. All day long riders took to the skate park and showed off their skills. Musicians rocked the main stage. The event encouraged recycling and had booths that promoted being green, like Ecofficiency. Torelli Realty also made a video with people giving their tips to help the environment.
The day rocked – literally, due to the music of bands like The Crowd, Channel 3, Disguster, New Skool Kings, Cat Party, Call to Glory, Joe’s Garage, SPLNTR, SLOKA, Craic Haus, and The Hindu Pirates.
Over 2000 people attended the event at Volcom Skate Park and there were over 150 contestants. The big winner of the day was Mike Owen and you can view some video if him here. You can also see some video of signature skate tricks by Jim Gray here. Congrats to MESA for winning the Battle of the Zones contest for The OC Skateboarding League. Thank you to the Estancia High School Cheer Squad and the Costa Mesa High School Cheer Sqaud for adding some pep to the battle. We’d also like to thank The Attic Skate Shop and Frog House for helping us to provide some cool raffle prizes – you guys rule!
Events like this are part of what make Costa Mesa such a great destination and add to Costa Mesa life. The all ages event was free and provided a day of fun for skaters, families, and the community.
