Costa Mesa Summer Movies at Orange County Performing Arts Center

Costa Mesa summer movies are back at Orange County Performing Arts Center (OCPAC). Just like the Costa Mesa summer concerts, this activity gives locals a chance to enjoy FREE played over 4 Mondays this summer. The concerts start July 12, 2010. Are you planning to go? The schedule is as follows:

July 12 – The Wizard of Oz

July 19 – Some Like it Hot

July 26 – Oliver!

August 2 – Dirty Dancing

Moviegoers are able to assemble their seating area as early as 5:30pm and the movies start around dusk (8pm). Costa Mesa is often called the “City of the Arts” because it is home to so many arts venues like OCPAC, Orange County Museum of Art, South Coast Repertory, and more. It is fitting that OCPAC would host a movie night and it is one of the events that Costa Mesa residents look forward to attending each summer. Summer is wonderful in Costa Mesa and with activities like free movies and free music the community has an opportunity to represent its entertainment. Last year the summer movies attracted a crowd of nearly 3,000 people. Moviegoers are able to take over the huge square and the public is encouraged to bring lounge chairs to set up camp and watch the movie, which is projected on the side of Segerstrom Hall. The movies reflect the image of the town motto “City of the Arts.” Costa Mesa, it’s such a great place to live and visit. What do you think of the summer movies? Make sure to comment below.

Orange County’s New Lyon Air Museum

Costa Mesa, nicknamed City of the Arts, has gained another attraction in our neighbor city of Santa Ana – The Lyon Air Museum.

Picture of Lyon Air Museum

Lyon Air Museum

The museum is next to the John Wayne Airport and displays aircraft and autos from the 1930s and 1940s.  Major General William Lyon opened the museum as a way to teach people in his home area about the efforts of American servicemen during World War II.  Military veterans will serve as docents and a lot of them even served during WWII.

The 30,000 sq. ft. Orange County museum broke ground in 2007 and opened during a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Thursday, Dec. 10, 2009.  Lyon Air Museum  serves to educate the public about the “Greatest Generation of Aviation.”  There are plenty of amazing features like a 1939 Mercedes-Benz Model G4 Offener Touring Wagon used by Adolph Hitler during World War II, as well as an authentic truck from Helms Bakery, which was used locally in the 1940s.

One of the greatest missions of the museum is to provide services to local school districts so that our youth will have a chance to learn first-hand about WWII.  Costa Mesa students and the surrounding communities are very fortunate to have so many fantastic resources at their disposal.  Make sure to visit the Lyon Air Museum and take advantage of yet another wonderful  treat near Costa Mesa.
