Just drive through the neighborhood and check out the street names for fun: Wake Forest, Villanova, Loyola, Vassar, Bowdoin, Cornell, Fordham… The list goes on!

The Homes

College Park is a large neighborhood with about 950 homes. Most of the homes were built in the 1950s however many have been updated over time. Generally the homes are single-story ranches. Many of the streets are quiet cul-de-sacs that are family-friendly and it’s not uncommon to see kids riding bikes, people walking dogs, or friends playing basketball on the street.

Torelli Realty agent Eric Guzik will be holding the College Park Garage Sale on Saturday, October 9, 2010. Anyone who lives in the neighborhood is welcome to sign up by emailing eric@torellirealty.com and putting “College Park Garage Sale” in the subject line.

Schools

College Park Elementary School is centrally located and an easy walk for most in the neighborhood. Older students attend middle school and high school at Mesa/Costa Mesa High School (Go Mustangs!), which is just outside College Park and still a close walk for most.

Costa Mesa Neighborhood – Mesa North with Colin McCarthy

Each Costa Mesa neighborhood has a sense of community pride and Mesa North is no exception. Colin McCarthy is the President of the Mesa North Community Association and he shared with us his insider perspective on why he loves representing Mesa North.

Where is Mesa North

Mesa North is located bounded by the 405 Freeway to the north, Fairview to the West, Baker to the South and the 73 Freeway to the East. Most of the homes built in this neighborhood were built around 1964. There are approximately 800 homes.

One of the interesting things about this neighborhood is that there are a number of streets named after Presidents.

Trivia Question: One of the “Presidential Streets” is named ‘Johnson.’ Was this for Andrew Johnson or Lyndon Johnson?

Do you live on a “Presidential Street?” Comment below!

One of the things Colin was proud to boast about is the fact that Paularino School is a California Distinguished School. The community is laid out in a very functional way where the school and park are set right in the middle of the neighborhood.  It’s easy for people to gather there.

Mesa North BIG Events

May – They have a neighborhood garage sale (around the same time we are hosting annual Mesa Verde Garage Sale.)

July – They hold a 4th of July Bike Parade with a float. (Mesa Del Mar also has a 4th of July Bike Parade)

October – They hold an annual meeting in October at Paularino School. Thanks to Starbucks who donates coffee for the meeting and the garage sale!

October/December – There are holiday decorating contests in October and December.

They assemble a neighborhood e-newsletter each quarter and alert the neighborhood with banners to let them know it is ready.

Thank you Colin for sharing with us your love of Mesa North! Colin and his wife are new parents and we wish them the best!

Costa Mesa Residents – Plenty of Neighborhoods to Choose FromPosted on August 18, 2010 by torellirealty| Leave a comment | Edit

Costa Mesa Neighborhoods

There are plenty of neighborhoods in Costa Mesa to call home. Each neighborhood has distinguishing characteristics and some are larger than others.  In a city with over 100,000 residents, small communities within the city help neighbors get to know one another. Click here for a list of some Costa Mesa neighborhoods.

What Makes Costa Mesa Neighborhoods Special

Many of our real estate agents are faced with clients who want to know about their options… Whether they’re looking for a quiet, safe place to raise a family or they’re looking for a peaceful place to retire, they’re in search of the perfect neighborhood. One thing that makes Costa Mesa neighborhoods special is that the residential neighborhoods are spread out all over the city in pockets. Within each pocket there are neighborhood schools and parks for residents to access easily. The pockets are pretty isolated from lots of heavy traffic and stores. Therefore, most of the residential areas are quiet and don’t have a lot of heavy traffic passing through them. In fact, many of the communities are set up to enhance the quality of life of the residents. You’ll find a lot of areas have a main entrance with a nice sign and the streets inside the community or tract are cul-de-sacs or quiet side streets.

Mesa Verde Sign

Focus of Costa Mesa

Senior Environmental Land & Resources Paralegal Robert Dickson, a Costa Mesa resident, knows all about the city layout. He noted that the focus of Costa Mesa is to increase residential ownership. With so many neighborhoods to choose from, the only thing left to ask is which neighborhood is your pick?
