Congrats to Costa Mesa Mayor’s Awards Recipients

The Costa Mesa Mayor’s Award is quite an honor – it’s awarded to individuals in the community who play an active role and are not only those who lead, but those who serve. Congratulations to Ed Baume and Chuck Perry, two outstanding Costa Mesa role models who are receiving the award this year! These gentleman couldn’t have been a better pick!

The Picks

Ed Baume has been part of Costa Mesa Pop Warner for the last 50 years. We’ve posted tons of information about Pop Warner on this blog and it is clear how important this youth sports organization is for the city. So many of our youth participate in football or cheer plus many parents and volunteers are involved. Ed has volunteered in many positions and even at 82 years old he continues to serve as Eagle Athletic Director!

Chuck Perry has been a Costa Mesa resident for over 50 years and contributes immensely to the Estancia High School Football program. He played on the football team himself while attending Estancia, then coached, and today volunteers and fundraises. He is also a member of Costa Mesa United, a local organization that raises money for local sports activities. We’ve also blogged a lot about Estancia Football  and Costa Mesa United – the football team is a source of spirit for the community and Costa Mesa United is a huge contributor to Costa Mesa sports facilities, which enhance the lifestyle for so many of our neighbors.

The Award Ceremony

Ed & Chuck will receive the honor at the upcoming Costa Mesa City Council meeting on September 21, 2010 at 6pm. Congratulations!

Do you have any well-wishes for the recipients? Please post them below.

Congrats to Valerie Torelli – Nominee for 2010 Excellence in Entrepreneurship Award

Each year the Orange County Business Journal (OCBJ) hosts several awards to recognize the people who impact the OC business community in a positive way.  Our very own president and owner, Valerie Torelli, is one of the nominees for the 2010 Excellence in Entrepreneurship Award.  Way to go Valerie!

Expert business coach Michael Gerber says that, “The

entrepreneur is our visionary, the creator in each of us.”

The accomplishments that got the attention of the OCBJ acknowledge Valerie’s vision.  In addition to remaining the number 1 real estate office in Costa Mesa year after year, Valerie also makes it a priority to support the community.  Her mission for Torelli Realty includes interaction and integration within the city.  To that end, the company hosts seasonal events like Snow Land that have become a welcome tradition, as well as sponsors local schools and organizations.

This year there are over 100 nominees up for the award.  In a thriving county with so many successful entrepreneurs it’s a privilege to be considered for such a distinction.  On March 17, 2010 five winners will be chosen.  Best of luck to everyone!

Leadership Tomorrow Celebrates Community Leaders

Winston Churchill said, “The price of greatness is responsibility.” That’s just the sentiment of the non-profit Leadership Tomorrow. The organization joins local leaders and experts in the communities of Costa Mesa, Newport Beach, and Irvine in addressing community issues. On February 4, 2010, the group will honor outstanding community leaders during the “Celebrating Leadership” reception at The Costa Mesa Country Club. We’re honored that Leadership Tomorrow has recognized our very own leader, Valerie Torelli, for her involvement in Costa Mesa.

Leadership Tomorrow is supported by the Costa Mesa Chamber of Commerce, Newport Beach Chamber of Commerce, Irvine Chamber of Commerce, and other community-minded organizations. Basically, the group supports local leaders who help guide and strengthen their communities. Valerie Torelli makes an effort to provide worthwhile events for the community like Snow Land and a yearly Easter egg hunt, as well as sponsors local groups such as the Estancia High School Cheer Squad and the Costa Mesa Community Athletic Foundation.

This year’s “Celebrating Leadership” reception will feature guest speaker Steve Becker, who is the VP of Human Resources for Golden State Foods and the Board President of the Orange County Ronald McDonald House. Irvine Police Department Chief David L. Maggard, Jr. will be presented with The Outstanding Community Leadership Award and Cindy Brenneman from the Leadership Tomorrow Class of 2002 will receive The Excellence in Leadership Award.

Wonderful leaders are making great impacts in our towns. In the true spirit of Churchill’s quote, those with power and influence have responsibilities to fulfill. Civic duty calls and great people in our communities are answering.

The 2009 OC Register Holiday Spirit Contest

It’s such an honor to have been nominated for the The 22nd annual Orange County Register Holiday Spirit contest.  The Holiday Spirit award recognizes local business owners who are kind and who give back to the community all year long.  The winner is ultimately chosen by readers of The OC Register through an online vote.  It is so pleasing to know that the public appreciates the efforts made by Torelli Realty.

The 2009 Holiday Spirit winner was 88-year old Elizabeth “Betsy” Perry who runs Cameron Welding Supply in Stanton.  She truly is full of spirit, from the personal birthday gifts she gives to her employees, to the homemade oatmeal cookies she dishes up, and the donations her company provides to the Ronald McDonald House.  Perry makes her 55 employees feel like family day in and day out.

Orange County is full of spirited business owners and I am grateful to be nominated in such good company.  Torelli Realty isn’t just a business, it’s a part of the community so it’s important to me that we stay involved as much as possible.  Thank you for the nomination!
